Why Do People Dismiss Frozen As Just a Kiddie Movie?

I keep hearing and reading this same theme everywhere: if you're an adult and you love Frozen, you're either a parent or an anomaly. Just because a movie is made for children doesn't mean you have to justify liking it as an adult. Children's films and books have a sophistication all their own. You take a deep, complex theme and put it in simple, vivid imagery that resonates with all age groups.

What, I ask you, is childish about that? I think that's actually pretty mature.

Part of me is wondering if this theme is circulating just because Frozen is popular, and some people have to be special snowflakes and act reluctant. >:)

Well, I personally would consider it much more of a kid's film than, say, Pocahontas just in comparing animated films. It's less intense, far more comedy, and with Olaf it definitely has the feel of a kid-aimed film. Not that there's anything the least bit wrong with that! I don't see why adults couldn't have fun watching kids films.

I do agree with the popular aspect, though. I tend to be stubbornly resistant to something wildly popular for some reason (I get burn out from being part of fandoms), and even though I thought Frozen was cute I know I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it was less popular.

Oh, that's a really good point! Pocahantas definitely has a different tone.

I'm like that sometimes, too. I still don't get why most people I know love Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and I can't stand it because I was told it was amazing, and I thought it was meh. LOL. (Apologies to fans everywhere.)

Re-reading my original post, I realize my tone sounded harsh. Hope I didn't come off as too obnoxious or abrasive.

I remember when it first came out my friend wasn't allowed to see it, and (unlike me) her parents took her to every Disney film that came out. Her mom thought it was way too dark for a six year old. I watched it for the first time when I was eighteen and was quite surprised by some of the scenes. It's still one of my favoirite animated films, and a lot of the reason is how very different it seems in that aspect.

Yeah, I tend to especially be that way with popular actors, for some reason. I don't usually *get* why people love a lot of them that are very popular. Oh, I love Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs but I DEFINITELY get why some people don't like it. It's zany, incredibly corny, and even a little weird. ;)

Yeah, I can see why a six-year-old's parents would be concerned, even though I haven't seen it in a while. I was rather unnerved by the whole song routine with the English and Indians calling each other savages, once I was old enough to realize they were saying "savages", and not "cabbages." Hey, you just reminded me that Pocahantas was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. :)

Zany is definitely the word for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. LOL. The whole part with the man-eating chickens was just . . . no. Man-eating chickens are too much for me. (This from a girl whose favorite TV shows are about serial killers.)

I know at the time it got a lot of critics commenting on the "racist" aspects. Personally I thought it was just being historically accurate since the racist characters are shown to be the evil ones. Hehe, that's pretty awesome! My first film was Luthor in 2003. I was a teenager and I'd never been in a theatre and I felt super awkward trying to figure out how it all worked and where to sit since the sceen was overwhelmingly large (I grew up with one of those super old tvs from the 80s that are portable and the thing went black and white for three years before we got a new one so my technology was pretty limited, lol).

LOL! The man-eating chickens was definitely a bit much. I wasn't terribly fond of making all the food human/animal like, tbh, but I love the main character and the plot otherwise. (Should I be afraid? *winks*)

Oh, cool! I always get these blank look from people around my age when I try to describe old tvs. *sad face*
