Hullo, everyone! Hope you are doing well.

Phoenix Comicon was a blast, despite a scare with an armed nutjob on Thursday, horrific organization Friday, and a prop weapons ban for the rest of the con. Will post pictures when I have the energy. And also blog about the books I've been slowly thumbing through and the manga I blazed through with abandon.

A personal post may also be in the works, my moods have swung particularly extreme lately, and life seems to equal fatigue and lack of patience.

What's been happening in your neck of the woods?

It's spectacular. It's phenomenal. It's everything I hoped for, and more. Can't think coherently. It took every ounce of will to not scream in fangirl glee for 50% of the movie. I want to watch it again already.

Hugs to you all. American or not, hugs to you all, we're all having to weather this.

It's busy at work, but I don't care because I finished all my stats for the month. Woohoo! Now I will just sit back, take calls, and listen to Black Butler tracks and spam coworkers with Addams Family GIFs. :D

Happy Halloween to those of you who celebrate! I'll be posting my medieval goth costume up here when I get home tonight. :D To those of you who don't celebrate (my family was like that when I was little), I wish you a lovely day!

Dialogue sounds incredibly boring (it's Underworld, of course there's blood), but Kate Beckinsale back WITH SWORDS?!?! YES, PLEASE! Also, nice Akutagawa hairstyle.

Just dropping this off here, because I was listening to it yesterday and it gave me fond memories and goosebumps all at once. These soundtracks will never not be awesome.

Star Wars: Before the Awakening
Greg Rucka

This was a well-written book, totally worth buying on Amazon because I was too impatient to wait on a hold list at the library. My only quibble is that the poor author did not have a lot of leeway or material to work with, and I feel the stories suffered for it. Everything had to be painted in broad strokes, especially with Rey, and I just wanted to know SO MUCH MORE about everyone.

Spoilers abound! )

This rendition of a classic song is so powerful, so emotive, I feel almost moved to tears whenever I hear it. Been playing it quite a bit the last couple weeks.

Hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow, whether you observe the holiday or whether you don't. For everybody working customer service Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, may the Force be with you!

. . . and wow. The feels, man. THE FEELZ. I had been working up to watching this movie for months. That included a few weeks in which I listened to an audiobook of Laura Hillenbrand's novel (which was poignant and beautiful and brilliantly done). Any films to do with wars that actually took place are very hard for me to sit through, and this one was too, but I'm so glad I did.

Rambling review ahoy! )

Over the last 2 or 3 months, I've been immersing myself in the world of Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter X Hunter. I've watched the entirety of the 2011 anime and 1 of its companion movies, I'm slowly making my way through 1999 anime with my mom and sis, and I've read a couple chapters of the manga. This stuff is addictive, and very, very compelling, though I do have issue with a few things here and there.

The first couple episodes of the 2011 anime were your typical boys-go-adventuring story. Very much like Pokémon, only with less girls. (There aren't a whole lot of girls in the 2011 version, and there's even less in the 1999 version. I didn't even notice until my mom pointed it out, since I was the only girl for 12 years in my family. It's weird when you start counting how many stories have x boys + 1 girl, and I don't like counting.)

Now for main cast introductions! )

This is beyond cool. I can't wait to try it!

. . . that Jane Austen temporary tattos exist. No, really, they do.

And I didn't know I needed such a thing until now. Mercy me.

Frozen was almost an instant favorite with me. The first few times I watched it, there was a familiar quality to the story that I just couldn't put my finger on, but I dismissed it, and sang along to "Let it Go" for the thousandth time. Then it hit me:
Elsa's and Anna's personalities parallel the personalities of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood.

To feel or not to feel . . . )

I was tagged by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] birdienl, so here goes! :)

The rules:
- Thank and link back to the person who tagged you.
- Tell us how you were introduced to Jane Austen and share one fun fact about your Janeite life (this fun fact can be anything from "I stayed up all night reading Emma" to "I visited Chawton and met Anna Chancellor.").
- Answer the tagger's questions.
- Write seven questions of your own.
- Tag as few as one or as many as seven other Janeites and let them know you've tagged them.

My introduction to Jane Austen: My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think it was because my Mom mentioned that I might like the A&E miniseries of Pride and Prejudice. Naturally, she was right! After that, I gobbled up other adaptions, and then the books. It's all a haze to look back on.

Fun fact about my Janeite life: I've never really taken to the word "Janeite." I feel like that is a word for a descendant or something. But I can't think of any term that works better, so Janeite will do. :)

On to the questions! )

Hope your holiday has been wonderful! My celebration is about to begin, since I was working today, but I'll just let it slide into Black Friday as well, since I'm off then.

Anybody watch Charlie Brown today? I think I might try to catch a few minutes later. :D
