Saving so many of Rufus Sewell as Will Ladislaw! I certainly don't see enough of those around! Thanks for making them. :)

Ah, you're welcome! Middlemarch is definitely under-appreciated. The more icons, the better! :)

Lovely icons of some lovely period dramas! My favourites are 11,19,26,31 and 37.

Did you watch those adaptations just recently for the first time?

Thank you! It's been a while since I watched them, especially Great Expectations. But I remember vividly that they were both very sad.

Middlemarch is not so very sad, is it? It does have a hopeful/happy ending for the larger part of the characters.

True, it does, but the entire storyline of Dorothea, poor thing, was so difficult for me to watch. She just longs to do good and make a difference so much!

[identity profile] birdienl.livejournal.com 2013-05-05 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That is indeed very sad, but wasn't Dorothea also a tiny bit naïve?

[identity profile] ever-maedhros.livejournal.com 2013-05-07 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
She was, and that just added to the sadness. Naïve characters are especially tragic.

Lovely icons! I especially love the coloring on the Middlemarch ones, very rich and pretty.

Is that a good Great Expectations? I've been putting it off because I've got this weird love-hate relationship with the actor (loved him in one thing, hated him in another), but I plan to see it eventually since I try to see all versions of it. The 1946 version is my absolute favorite, though. (:

Aww, thank you!

It's been so long since I've seen it (or read the book, for that matter), that I really can't judge it either way. I'd need to read the book again, and then watch all the adaptions, before I'd venture to say much. I've yet to see the 1946 version--on my list it goes!

(:

It was my very first Dickens so I'm quite fond of it even if Nicholas Nickleby and Our Mutual Friend have replaced it as my favorites. Oh, I hope you enjoy it! It's a condensed version so several things are left out but it does a really good job with the story. Estella is a little iffy but Miss Havisham is utterly amazing (I thought Gillian Anderson was a bit too young and pretty in the more popular version), and John Mills is absolutely fabulous as Pip. Also the black and white just adds something to the story that color can't seem to portray, imo. But, anyway, hope you find it as good as I did. (:

Ah, well, I'm looking forward to watching all of them, then!
