After Far Too Much Waiting . . .

. . . I finally watched the very first episode of Downton Abbey earlier this week. That took much longer than it should for any self-respecting period drama fanatic.

And I was fully satisfied that I made the right choice in just buying the entire first season, trusting the good taste of my friends. ;) It boggles my mind just how well the stage was set for all these characters to go about their various schemes, well-meaning or not-so-well-meaning.

And now I just want a week off to catch up on every single episode! Maggie Smith was magnificent, as expected. Michelle Dockery was sublime, as expected. (I don't know why Mary hated wearing black--her black dress was SPECTACULAR, and suited her very well indeed.) There were some elements I was definitely NOT expecting, though. *cough* An . . . unconventional illustration of why you do NOT dally with a Duke. *cough*

I don't know how I'm going to tip-toe around spoilers on tumblr, though. This is going to be quite the challenge!

Feel free to spam me with GIFs from the first episode--I'm having a hard time finding some amidst all the rest of them!

Yes, I have found that out! Just finished the last episode of the first season this evening. Still loving it, but I am very anxious for Edith and Mary to stop fighting already. They need to take a clue from Anna and Gwen.

Oh, good! :) I must warn you though, everything gets waaaaay more angsty in the second season... And then the third season is just an angst fest from beginning to end! *sigh* Yes, Edith and Mary drive me slightly nuts with their drama. I don't know any sisters who are so nasty to each other! Anna and Gwen are completely sweet, though! <3

*braces self* I already got stuck with a spoiler for season 3, I think. AND IT WAS NOT A HAPPY SPOILER. Part of me hopes I read it wrong. I'm not going back to the DA tag to see if I did.

STAY AWAY FROM TUMBLR IF YOU VALUE YOUR SPOILER-FREE EXISTENCE!! I tried to avoid spoilers during season 2 but massively failed... The internet is not very good with hiding major plot points! I hope you didn't get too spoiled or you can at least try and forget what you saw! Perhaps it's a good excuse to just blaze through the entire show before it gets ruined!

That's what I'm trying to do. It's the only way to maintain sanity! Just finished the episode where guy who may or may not be the true heir runs off, and when Mrs. Bates turns up dead. I'm having a hard time believing he's really the guy that was supposed to have died when the Titanic sunk. But we'll see.

You seem to be succeeding nicely!
